Kohlman Lake is impaired and located in a fully, developed watershed with a high degree of commercial land use. This project will construct infiltration BMPs (porous pavement, tree boxes, cisterns and rainwater gardens/bioretention areas) throughout 7.9 acres of the Maplewood Mall parking lot to intercept up to the first 2 inches of stormwater runoff.
The Kohlman Lake nutrient reduction study identified a major source of phosphorus loading from the impervious areas like roads, roofs and parking lots within the watershed.. Within this area, one major land use feature stands out - Maplewood Mall.
