Summary of the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment’s 10th Anniversary Report:
2018 marked 10 years of the passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. This legislative amendment has made it a priority to invest in Minnesota’s state and regional parks systems; approximately 186 parks and 439 trails across Minnesota have benefited from Legacy funding since 2008. In an effort to recognize the 10th Anniversary of this constitutional amendment the Parks and Trails Legacy Advisory Committee organized several regional public events to celebrate, educate and listen to Minnesota’s citizens.
The Parks and Trails Legacy Advisory Committee (PTLAC) is comprised of individuals that have been appointed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Greater Minnesota regional Parks and Trails Commission, and the Metropolitan Council. The goal of this partnership among agencies is to provide improvements and recommendations as the 25-year plan of the Legacy Amendment is implemented.
The PTLAC planned and executed the many anniversary events of 2018. This was made possible by the hard work and efforts made by the Legacy agencies, and the selfless contributions of volunteers from across the entire state of Minnesota. The Parks and Trails Advisory Committee is grateful for the extensive contributions of the many partners that came to the regional events. This report shares the highlights of the celebrations that took place across the entire state of Minnesota. This report also summarizes the PTLAC and the Legacy agencies’ efforts to educate the public on the impact of Legacy funding on Minnesota’s parks and trails systems and seeks to make improvements over the next 15 years of continued Legacy funding.
