Bart & Claudia Fletcher and some of the children were on hand to sign books, talk about their adoption experience from parent and child perspectives. They also promoted the Dave Thomas Foundation resources, Rock County Community Library Resources and their mentoring to adoptive families through their 3rd Degree Parenting, LLC.

Tracy Public Library sponsored an author event with Catherine Friend on Wednesday, June 2, 2010. Catherine talked about the different types of books she has written. She mentioned her inspiration and how she went about getting published. She read excerps from the books. Catherine talked about the projects she is currently working on. She answered questions as they came up, and laughed with us.

Jackson County Library in cooperation with area schools sponsored Paul Zoch, local author and Blaise Jacobsen, local illustrator of the children's "What Do You Need?"book series to visit the school libraries.

Paul and Blaise did a short skit, read from their books and did some drawing for the K-3 classes at the Jackson, Lakefield and Heron Lake Elementary schools.

CLIMB Theatre presented "Rhymin' Simon," a CLIMB Theatre original which was performed by 2 actors. One of the local churches had an evening family event that whole week so that had a huge impact on our attendance. But, in spite of our low attendance which ranged in age from preschool age to 13 years, every one of the kids was eager to participate.

The Windom Public Library sponsored Climb Theatre. The Climb Theatre skit "Rhymin Simon" was preformed on June 30, 2010 by members of the Climb Theater group. It was about rhyming.

A Climb Theatre original "Rhymin'Simon" was a fun interactive program. The kids sat in a circle around the actors and helped them with the story. Nate and Kate needed help figuring out which words rhymned, so they asked for help. They were too late and Nate was turned into a skate.

Morgan Public Library sponsored a program by the Climb Theater. Climb Theater presented a play of the folktale Ananzi the Spider done with 2 actors.

The Minneota Public Library sponsored Draw, Learn, Create on June 18, 2010 for a group of preschool and lower elementary aged children.

A local artist gave a lesson on how to draw. The children each drew a picture following the lesson. The artist then read some of her favorite books to the group.

Author, Renee Wendinger presented the history of the Orphan Trains, a little immigration history and some personal stories of those she knows who rode on the train. Program sponsored by the Morgan Public Library.

Ed Hart weaved together an original series of related stories every week to create a overall story called Feather Tales. He used stories to entertain, educate and inspire both children and adults. The Redwood Falls Public Library sponsored the Feather Tales Series on Wednesday afternoon from June 9 through August 18, 2010.

Tables with art supplies and craft ideas were set up one day a week for six weeks at the Jackson, Lakefield and Heron Lake libraries. Children were allowed to come and go as they pleased throughout the day. A library staff member attended the table and assisted the children that needed help. Assorted materials were available at the table for creative expression.

Minnesota Author Kao Kalia Yang shared her Hmong family's experiences of leaving Laos, surviving the poverty of the refugee camps in Thailand, and eventually making it to the U.S. to start a new life. She read very moving excerpts from her award-winning book, The Latehomecomer.

Redwood Falls Public Library offered an activity for children in preschool through 4th grade. The children learned waterfowl identification and duck calls through hands on activities.

Make a Splash at Your Library was the Nobles County Library/Worthington Branch Summer Reading Program kick-off. The program was centered around the conservation of MN wetlands: rivers, lakes, marshes, and streams. The duck and its connection to our wetlands was the overlying theme.

Morgan Public Library sponsored a program with author Mike Lynch. Lynch provides a Power Point presentation of the sun, stars and galaxies. Locating the different star formations and information and stories about many of them. He included hands-on use of star charts to locate them in the sky and looking through the large telescopes to see stars, planets and galaxies.

The National Children's Study group and Edgerton Public Library were hoping for 50 people to come to our program. Would you believe nearly 200 came to this exciting festivity? On May 15, 2010 the library was filled with people by 1:15, when the activities were to start at 1:30.

Minnesota authors Rae Katherine Eighmey and Debbie Miller discuss their 1950's era cookbook "Potluck Paradise: Favorite Fare from Church and Community Cookbooks" published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press, along with a cooking demonstration, book signing, stories and cooking advice.Tyler Public Library rented space at the Tyler Senior Center for the author presentation.

The Granny Readers brought stories to life with props and actions during their program on June 25, 2010. Some of the material they use is from a reader's theater group and other stories are their own adaptations. They used traditional stories as well as introducing the children to new stories.

Tina Rohde and Colleen Shaskin presented a lively performance using audience participation, puppets, props and magic. The program promoted literacy and reinforced the importance of reading for people of all ages. The program was held three times on May 8, 2010.

Fulda Memorial Library sponsored a Summer Reading Program on June 23, 2010 with Ducks as the theme. In the 1st thru 3rd grade group, the theme of the whole session was ducks--duck stories, duck snacks, duck games, etc. The ducks were decorated by the kids with markers, stickers, jewels, etc. and put up in the library windows to decorate.
