Project Overview
Partners: Minnesota Humanities Center, Minnesota Indian Affairs Council American Indian undergraduate students from across Minnesota participated in a unique summer educational experience. The students selected for this intensive three-week residential program attended classroom presentations and experienced hands-on learning about the museum field and other historical and cultural preservation organizations. The students also learned about various career paths and academic requirements for working in these types of organizations, both on and off reservations, as well as particular challenges faced by American Indian communities related to preserving tribal history.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

100% of students self-identified as diverse; 44% of students reported a very high knowledge of MN History after the program whereas 0% reported that before the program; 44% of students reported appreciation of their own history as very high before the program, 77% after the program. Very high knowledge of the preservation/retention of culture increased from 33% to 67%; An above average or very belief in the ability to pursue a graduate degree increased from 45% to 89%; Responses of very high interest in History increased from 22% to 87%;
