Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

2: "Regional residents participating in the arts activities will experience a change in knowledge, attitude, behavior or condition due to public art, arts festivals or arts events." Through the community workshops, residents will learn more about one another's experience and knowledge, explore problems and imagine solutions in their community together, and build on and celebrate their community's uniqueness and strengths. To evaluate this goal, residents will engage in written surveys and verbal group reflection (that The Defrost Project will capture). Residents will share moments when they felt they could express themselves and when they learned from fellow community members; they will share moments when they explored specific community problems and imagined solutions; and they will share moments when they celebrated their community. 8: "Regional residents will also learn new arts skills and techniques." They will gain an appreciation for and skills in creating original art that expresses challenges, imagines solutions, and celebrates the uniqueness of their community. They will also use the arts to plan and implement community events that embrace their interests, such as a potluck and/or musical event. To evaluate this goal, residents will engage in surveys and group reflection (that The Defrost Project will capture). Residents will report specific skills that they gained in creating art with their community: these artistic skills will be based on their interests, and may include: theater devising, storytelling, visual art, and music. 11: "Regional residents will build connections to their own and others' cultural heritage" by participating in workshops and as audience members at the final performance. Resident participants will learn about one another's experiences and culture through dialogue and through group art-making in the workshops. They will then build on these connections for the final performance that will showcase the work done by all of the resident groups. Audience members will have the chance to learn from these connections at this event. During the final performance, audience members and residents will share what they learned through an interactive group reflection and surveys. They will share what they learned about fellow community members' experience and culture. They will also share connections that they made with their community, such as what makes them unique, what they hope for the future, and what surprised them about their community. We will conduct short surveys, both written and verbal, at the end of individual events and after the project as a whole (these will be available in Chuukese, Spanish, and English), asking about participants' experience of the project, if and how the project has shifted their perspective on Milan or their relationship to those different from them in Milan, and what they hope/feel is possible for Milan's future. 2: Residents will share moments when they felt they could express themselves and when they learned from fellow community members; they will share moments when they explored specific community problems and imagined solutions; and they will share moments when they celebrated their community. 8: Residents will report specific skills that they gained in creating art with their community: these artistic skills will be based on their interests, and may include: theater devising, storytelling, visual art, and music. 11: During the final performance, audience members and residents will share what they learned about fellow community members' experience and culture. We plan to evaluate the project within the genre and framework of the workshop itself, so we will examine what the residents express through various artistic mediums, such as in storytelling, theater, and visual art.
