9: "Regional residents gain awareness and appreciation for a variety of artistic disciplines and mediums." City of Slayton residents and visitors to Slayton will gain awareness of public art not only from the Slayton Mural but the artist's connection to murals in the Slayton Public Library and Casey Jones Trail, knowledge of mural painting process from observation of the Slayton Mural as it is being painted plus media coverage, and appreciation for the process of planning for and bringing the Slayton Mural Project to completion. We are planning a survey assessing how the mural has impacted residents. This will be distributed in person to: Slayton City Council, Monday Study Club, Kiwanis Club of Slayton and available at the Slayton Public Library. It will be posted to the informal arts group via Facebook. Finally, it will be sent to participants in the two focus groups held as a part of the planning process and given to July 11 celebration attendees. This will give us a fairly representative picture of the mural's impact. Residents will be asked: Does the mural accurately portray Slayton and the surrounding area? Has your awareness and appreciation for public art increased from viewing the mural? Have you gained knowledge of how murals are painted? What is your level of appreciation for the process of planning for and bringing the mural to completion? What other arts activities would you like to see occur in the Slayton community?.
