Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Our first goal is to help Boys and Girls Club members to learn the fundamentals of art at the same time as encouraging them to grow their talents, build confidence and learn to express themselves in a healthy and positive way. Our second goal is to utilize Wesley May’s talent and ability to be a positive role model as a Native artist to help our 28% Native American members to learn the importance of keeping their culture alive and stress the importance of members of any culture to share that with everyone. 75% of participating members will increase their knowledge of technical skills in pencil drawing, pastels and paint. The Boys and Girls Club of the Bemidji Area will use pre and post-tests to evaluate the project. 75% or more of those completing the post test will demonstrate that they have increased their knowledge and skills and had a positive experience. As part of the post-test we will take one word pictures that depict how the members felt about the project and create a slide show to be shown at the art show. At the end of the project we will have an art show to showcase members work to parents and the community.

Measurable Outcome(s)

16 middle and high school aged members and 50 elementary aged members participated with Wesley May in the mural project. Almost all of the categories tested in our post-test were showed improvement in members’ knowledge and according to the one word pictures by members 1005 had a positive experience. Lakeland Public Television covered the art opening and interviewed Wesley May, Boys and Girls Club staff and at least two of the participants and the Bemidji Pioneer ran an article on the project with color photos. It was a successful project and will be a lasting piece of public art for the children of our community.
