Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant
ACHF Arts Education
Youth through senior citizens will be inspired to engage more intentionally in future art activities. Teaching artists will increase their ability to reach participants at various levels and ages, and their teaching skills will improve. Children will gain curiosity about other arts learning opportunities and be inspired to sign up for Community Education classes, and the Clear Waters Life Center Youth Center art rooms.A short survey after their art experience will indicate what skills participants gained and what their experience was like working with the artists. The number of sign-ups for future workshops, classes, and open studios will show inspiration for future engagement. Observation of the effectiveness of teaching methods and verbal interviews with each teaching/demonstrating artist will show their perception of their success and indicate an improvement in their skills. Observation of the children participants with specific attention paid to signs of curiosity and enjoyment will indicate levels of success. The number of names on sign-up sheets will show participation inspiration among the young participants.
Participants were asked to sign-in at each hands-on demonstration and fill out a short survey. Staff observed the demonstrations and conducted a verbal interview with each teaching/demonstrating artist. Participants were unwilling to complete our survey after their experience so we collected about half. Participants had lots of fun engaging in art and did not want to fill out paperwork associated with the project. Artists felt successful at engaging the participants and felt they had increased their ability to reach participants at various levels and ages, especially youth. Staff noticed that youth were more willing than adults to participate in hands-on demonstrations. Many of the watching adults said it looked like fun and they should sign up for classes, but we did not get the sign-ups we predicted.
