Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Youth and Music and Arts Showcase V has three desired outcomes: increased participation from visual artists in grades 5-12, youth musicians and preschoolers with participants increasing their skills; draw peers, family, friends, and residents into area downtown businesses, build a greater connection between downtown businesses and area youth.Judges will provide student participants with critiques of their work including comments on strengths and weaknesses and suggestions for improvement. The number of youth musicians will be tracked, and they will receive feedback on their Friday afternoon performances and Thursday night concert from audience participation in a polleverywhere.com evaluation. Musicians will receive stamped postcards asking for their likes, dislikes and suggestions for improvement. Audience anecdotal responses to student art and performances will be recorded and audience reactions will be photographed. Downtown businesses will participate in an on-site survey that will record the impact the event has had on their business and the community.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The number of youth artists and musicians increased, but the number of visual artists was significantly fewer than in 2012. Visual art was displayed in four downtown businesses. All store owners or managers completed a survey and reported additional foot traffic as a result of this event. Audiences at the youth concerts Thursday and Friday were very well attended. The four-day event creates the perception that downtown Park Rapids welcomes young people and their families. All the proposed evaluation methods were completed. Judges provided student participants with critiques of their work. Organizers signed up for Polleverywhere.com as an evaluation tool to receive Thursday night concert feedback via text message. Musicians were given index cards asking for feedback.
