Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Emergent 3rd grade writers learn and practice the bones of narrative creation orally through storytelling activities, and translate this knowledge into written practice by writing original stories. Students can identify and use story structure, character, setting, concrete sensory description, action, and plot sequence in oral story work.Weekly check-ins, comparing written notes and adjusting future lesson plans by needs, weekly group meetings and debriefings, end of residency student questionnaires on attitudes toward reading and writing, teaching artist evaluation sessions.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Students' final stories showed vast improvement to teachers, mentors and parents.
