ACHF Arts Education
The quantity and types of arts learning opportunities in the state, and the organizations or venues that offer them increases. Arts learning opportunities are more accessible to Minnesota because barriers to participation have been identified and mitigated. More Minnesotans are engaged in arts learning opportunities.
1. a. Through the arts disciplines of music, dance and theater, Stevens Elementary School students learned to define respect through their work with two artists, to demonstrate respectful behavior and then to extend that understanding of respect for self to respect for others, for the world and for the past. They learned teamwork and decision making. b. Parents and families had multiple opportunities to share what their students learned at two evening events. c. Teachers participated in a professional development session with the artist to better integrate the work of the artists with the students. d. Community members participated as classroom volunteers and as audience members at a concert held at the public library. 2. The project was evaluated during the residency by the planning team and with a survey with artists and teachers at the end of the residency. At the end of the first semester, the summary pages of the Respect Residency were sent home in report cards as reminders. 2: 1. By focusing this grant on the elementary school population, all students were able to participate in the activities of the grant. The grant funding allowed the community event to be free and open to the public.
