Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The goal of this program is to increase the quantity and types of arts learning opportunities for youth. The outcomes of this grant will be measured in several ways, some with data and rubrics, some with anecdotal data. The first way I can tell if a project is successful is if the students strive to finish a project. If they are interested in coming into the art room extra hours and hang out there during study hall, they are happy to work extra and it shows. This means they are enjoying the project which is the first step to learning. The English teacher and I will design a rubric for both the poetry and art separately, but in the art grade there will be a rubric section for how well the book art and the poetry compliment and work together. I would also require the students to write an artist's statement about their piece. These paragraphs would tell what the students feel they have learned through the process, both in book arts and in poetry.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The students were tested in English on their knowledge of Native American values as taught during this grant period. All students completed a book, following directions as taught by the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and art teacher, reflecting their poetry. All books included poetry reflecting Native American values.
