Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Students will build their own one stringed dulcimer and limberjack by following step-by-step directions. Students will be able to play a variety of songs solo and with a group in a performance on their dulcimer. Students will be able to explain how pitch changes with the length of the dulcimer string. Students will be able to keep rhythm and beat with their limberjack dancing. Students will learn different Scandinavian dances and perform them. Students will be teachers as well as learners as they introduce their instruments to first graders, parents, and Senior Care Center residents. Students will each complete How to Build a Dulcimer" - a set of instructions for building a dulcimer. Students will perform as a group and in small groups at the end of residency performance to demonstrate their mastery of the instruments and the dances. Students will journal about the constructing of both instruments and the experience of teaching first graders and seniors about the dulcimer. The residency will also include time to evaluate with the teachers and the artist."
