History Theatre will have expanded its audiences by presenting the musical theater productions of Beyond the Rainbow to three communities in Minnesota. History Theatre will track the number of audience members at all performances and attendees at audience engagement activities. 2: History Theatre will tour to communities new to its work: Grand Rapids, Detroit Lakes, and Dawson History Theatre will evaluate the success of each performance once completed.
History Theatre toured its award-winning production of Beyond the Rainbow starring Jody Briskey in her 2012 Ivey Award-winning role of Judy Garland along with a stellar supporting cast comprised of Norah Long, Peter Moore, Clark Cruikshank, and Peggy O'Connell as well as four professional musicians led by the nationally-acclaimed Jimmy Martin. The tour successfully visited three greater Minnesota communities: Grand Rapids, Detroit Lakes, and Dawson. 2: History Theatre had never previously visited the Greater Minnesota communities of Grand Rapids, Detroit Lakes, and Dawson with any production. After much communication and pre-tour site visits with presenters at the Reif Center (Grand Rapids), Historic Holmes Theatre (Detroit Lakes), and the Dawson-Boyd Arts Association, we created the strong relationships necessary to not only successfully bring Beyond the Rainbow to their communities, but to lay the foundation for future partnerships.
