Our targets were achieved or exceeded. We had to go through two bidding processes due to the limited number of inquiries and bids we were receiving despite our newspaper and social media ads, but eventually did achieve hiring an experienced, qualified contractor who also had prior experience with our architecture team at LHB, as well as the grants process in previous projects. That enabled us to turn around and set up the work schedule promptly so our timeline was a little delayed but still acceptable to get the masonry work completed prior to winter. This was really important as the wall was found to have more severe internal deterioration than previously thought and our contractors worked with us to get it completed quickly.
We have noticed a significant increase in the inquiries our board members are getting while out and about and the positive comments from community members who are excited to see the repair done and our hard work for the last 3 years come to reality.
We have begun a capital campaign in order to capitalize on these positive results and excitement in order to raise $25,000-50,000 to restore the storefront windows, repaint the facade, and repair all the windows on the second floor to improve the protective abilities of the envelope and ensure the work completed will be maintained. In the last 3 years we have repaired the furnaces and plumbing and electricity, and now have a safe, functional building that will return to community use.
