Measurable Outcome(s)

Although the goal of 1330 objects inventoried was exceeded, the target short term impact was not wholly reached since a complete inventory of the textiles storage room was expected. While the original estimate for the room was 1400 objects, the goal was reduced to 1330 based on feasible inventory rates. However, during the inventory, a number of boxes were discovered with uncataloged objects, or with incorrect locations, which increased the total object count for the room. Once the project was completed, a more detailed estimate was obtained that counted about 400 objects remaining to be inventoried in the room. These objects will be inventoried by staff and volunteers as inter-phase inventory 1.

The improved catalog records for the objects that were inventoried may be utilized immediately for exhibits, or for research of artifacts. The physical inventory binder and phasing plan were updated to indicate the progress of the comprehensive inventory and in preparation of phase 2. The objects that have been inventoried have allowed staff to identify items for potential deaccession based on their conditions. This was an expected intermediate outcome, however some of the items are in such poor condition that they can be deaccessioned without waiting for the complete inventory.
