Project Overview
College interns from Minnesota's diverse communities are placed across MNHS in various departments and sites. During their semester-long internships, students have the opportunity to work alongside museum and public history professionals to enhance their skills and apply their knowledge in a professional environment. The activities focus on engaging with MNHS on a deeper level by discussing current issues and trends with staff, sharing intern experiences and building professional networks. In FY16, Legacy funds supported 93 college interns, who contributed more than 13,000 hours at MNHS museums and historic sites. Thirty percent of participants were from communities of color. These internships provide college students opportunities to gain more work experience as they apply for professional jobs. Ninety three percent of the interns during FY16 rated their experience as good to excellent.
