Expand the hours of operation at visitor centers to provide improved customer interaction, connect more current visitors and new users with an outdoor experience, and increase conservation education opportunities.

About the Issue

An annual report of park visitation will be prepared in mid-January, 2011. The report will help to document anticipated increases in visitor center use and programs provided. However, this report is for a calendar year period and not fiscal year; thus, the complete outcome will not be known until the end of the fiscal year.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s) 
Visitor center hours will be expanded in 4 state parks. Two parks will receive visitor center exhibit upgrades.
Measurable Outcome(s) 
Visitor center hours continue to be expanded at Ft. Snelling, Blue Mounds, Sibley, and St. Croix state parks, increasing learning opportunities for state park visitors. The first visitor center upgrade was completed in 2011 at Sibley State Park. The second visitor center upgrade will be at Jay Cooke State Park where exhibits are anticipated to be completed by July 2012.

The Division will expand the hours of operation for visitors centers at 4 state park locations by approximately 400 hours per park (1600).
Measurable Outcome(s) 
The division was able to achieve it's goal of enhancing state park visitor centers by keeping visitor centers opened longer for public use and enjoyment.
