Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

- Survey: Survey results will show most respondents agree with these questions:"Has Culturology woven art, culture and history more strongly into your life?""Does Culturology help arts, culture and history thrive in MN?""I have learned instances where history has affected our lives as Minnesotans on Culturology, and this may help me make more informed choices in the future."- Facebook reach: KAXE will create at least one post from Culturology each week and keep a tally of the reach of each post to determine which segments are most compelling and how many people are seeing them.  Estimated broadcast audience: Based on on-air fundraising results and placement in the schedule, KAXE will estimate the number of listeners to the radio broadcasts. Subject comparison to census data: create documents, using census data, that detail the age, gender and race of the people included in the broadcast service area and compare the make-up of program guests to be sure that it is representative.Tally of participants and number of programs produced: KAXE will track the number of people and groups involved in the programs and the number of programs produced.Fiscal audit: To assure trust of our stewardship, the organization will undergo an annual audit and will have a "clean" audit.Artist/organizational feedback: The organization will collect feedback from artists about our program's effect on their ability to earn income from their art, and from organizations about the program's impact on their goals.

Measurable Outcome(s)

- Online survey:
Does Culturology help the arts, culture and history thrive in Minnesota? 98% of survey respondents said yes, 3% no

Has Culturology woven art, culture and history more strongly into your life? 84% of survey respondents said yes, 16% no

I have learned instances where history has affected our lives as Minnesotans on Culturology, and this will help me make more informed choices in the future. 95% agreed and 5% disagreed

- Facebook reach: About 11 Culturology programs were shared on Facebook. The greatest reach was 257 people, for an interview with author Adriana Trigiani about her book “The Shoemaker’s Wife.”

-Estimated broadcast audience: 3,200+ (the original weekly program is also rebroadcast once/week)

- Subject comparison to census data:
This comparison to census data does not include a breakdown of the numerous people whose artistic, cultural and historical expression was covered through the weekly Arts Review. Steve Downing covered 27 bands and over 100 musicians at Nevis Muskie Days, the Zombie Prom at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids, the I-35 bridge collapse memorial, the Itasca Orchestra and Strings Program, a visual artist in Bigfork, a summer concert series in Grand Rapids, gypsy jazz at the VFW in Grand Rapids, the Migration to the Edge show at the Edge Center, Northern MN Woodworkers at the MacRostie Art Center, the Twin Cities Book Festival, the Bemidji Baroque Ensemble, a poetry slam sponsored by Bemidji Public Library and much more. There were hundreds of people of all ages and races included in the weekly Arts Review.

Other than the Arts Review, Culturology subjects were 91% white, 7% American Indian, 2% African American.

Other than the Arts Review, ages were 11% 0-19, 12% 20-30, 9% 31-40, 10% 41-50, 17% 51-60, 32% 61-70, 8% 71-80 and 2% 81+.
In general, the program demographics are a reasonable match with the population of the area.

- Tally of participants and # of programs produced: So far, KAXE tally 111 (excluding the Arts Review) participants and produced 35 1-hour programs through the most recent billing period (February).

- Artist/partner feedback: Here is an example of feedback from a community event, where the producer of Minnesota book reviews did one of the interviews in front of an audience as part of a Grand Rapids Area Library series:

The kick off event for the Rapids Reads program was held on Thursday, March 21st and it was a fantastic event. For those unfamiliar with the event or who were unable to attend, Heidi Holtan from KAXE interviewed featured author Joseph Plut about his book, Conversations with Jon Hassler. Will Richter welcomed everyone to the event and offered thanks to the Foundation and all those who helped with making the event possible. I followed and introduced the program, reminded those in attendance about the upcoming events and introduced Heidi and Joseph. The event took off from there. Heidi asked intriguing questions that allowed both an overview of the book and required answers that summed up the relationship between Joseph, Jon and writing. Joseph Plut was a wonderful guest. He brought an unmatched energy to the event and held the audience's attention throughout. The articles and notes he brought paired with his intimate knowledge of the subject provided for very interesting, entertaining answers. Around 30 people attended the interview which was also recorded by ICTV. I have many recommendations after having an event of this nature. First, the way the event was presented, an interview format worked really well with this guest and would be a great way to present future guests to the public. Heidi did a fantastic job in all aspects and I would recommend we utilize her if possible in the future. She kept the coversation going while keeping it from going on too much. The guest speaker, Joseph Plut was a great guest and would be great to have again for events regarding writers or the writer process. Overall, I personally enjoyed the event and feel it was well received!
