Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

- Online survey: KAXE will be successful to the extent that most respondents answer the following questions in the affirmative:"Has Short-Form Radio Documentary Cultural Series: 1. The History of Finns in MN 2. Northern MN Crossroads revealed that history is woven into our lives and our communities?""Did these programs showcase the Finnish immigrant experience or history?""Did they showcast the art, culture and history found in some lesser-known small towns in the northern Minnesota region?"Does the Short-Form Radio Documentary Cultural Series: 1. The History of Finns in MN and 2. Northern MN Crossroads help arts, culture and history thrive in MN?" and"I have increased my awareness of how history affects people's lives through Short-Form Radio Documentary Cultural Series: 1. The History of Finns in MN and 2. Northern MN Crossroads. In addition, the historical perspectives offered in these series have helped (or will help) me make more informed decisions for the future. "- Facebook/online reach: KAXE will post links to each Short-Form Radio Documentary Cultural Series: 1. The History of Finns in MN and 2. Northern MN Crossroads program. KAXE can track the number of impressions, or reach, of each FB post and the number of visits to the ACH Programs page on KAXE dot org.- Estimated broadcast audience: We will estimate the broadcast audience for the program according to placement in the schedule, fundraising response, etc.- Fiscal audit: The organization will assure fiscal responsibility through undergoing and having a clean audit that fairly represents the finances of Northern Community Radio.- List to track specific, desired program outcomes: A list of all the pieces will reveal a comprehensive set of topics that are all focused on MN. KAXE will track all artists, writers, musicians, and community members who are included in these series. Community, artist and listener feedback: KAXE will seek feedback from community members, historians, writers, artists and others who are participating in or affected by the short-form documentaries. This feedback may take the form of letters, notes, email, or anecdotes.

Measurable Outcome(s)

- Online survey:
Have the short-form radio documentary cultural series “The History of Finns in MN” and “Northern MN Crossroads” revealed that history is woven into our lives and our communities? 97% of survey respondents said yes, 3% said no.
Did these series showcase the art, culture and history found in some lesser-known small towns in the northern MN region? 96% of respondents said yes, 4% no
Did the short-form radio documentary series “The History of Finns in MN” and “Northern MN Crossroads” help arts, culture and history thrive in MN? 97% of survey respondents said yes, 3% no
I have increased my awareness of how history affects people’s lives through the short-form radio documentary cultural series “The History of Finns in MN” and “Northern MN Crossroads.” 97% of survey respondents agreed with this statement, 3% disagreed
The historical perspectives offered in these series have helped (or will help) me make more informed decisions in the future: 93% agreed, 7% disagreed.

- Facebook reach: The documentaries were grouped into 2 series of 5 parts each. The “Crossroads” series focused on towns along MN’s Highway 1. So far, KAXE has posted the Ely show (196 people saw this post) and the Red Lake show (302 people saw this post). In the “History of Finns in MN” series, KAXE posted the Sauna show (300 people saw this).

- Estimated broadcast audience: At least 6,800 unique individuals probably heard one of the 9 (of 10) segments produced and aired so far. Each segment was aired 3 times.

- Participant comparison to census data: The participants in the series about Finnish history in MN are by-definition older and Finnish. In the Crossroads series, the towns represented are mostly White, except Red Lake, where the participants were 50% White and 50% American Indian. Total demographic representation for this series is as follows:

Ages are 11% 18-24, 11% 25-44, 39% 45-64 and 39% 65+ (with several over 80).

The participants were equally divided by gender; 50% female and 50% male.

Racial composition was 96% White, 4% American Indian.

Given the parameters of this series, it is a fair representation of the populations in this part of the state.

- Desired program outcomes: As proposed, tracking the artists, historians and community members in this series has revealed a comprehensive set of topics that are all focused on MN.
