Project Overview

MPR’s Local Arts and Culture Promotion project is a unified effort to showcase Minnesota artists through both in-depth profile journalism and current events reporting on-air and online. Acting as a megaphone for artists and a window into the art world for listeners, the Local Arts and Culture Promotion project will maximize audience exposure to Minnesota arts and cultural events, trends, and information.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The benefit for Minnesotans will be increased information about arts and culture figures and activities. Greater awareness of events, figures, and trends leads to more arts participation, which in turn increases the viability of Minnesota artists earning a fair wage from their work. With just under 600,000 weekly listeners on the MPR News service alone[1], and over 2 million page impressions through their website, MPR stands uniquely positioned to be a principal driver in increasing exposure for artists. 75% of MPR listeners responded to MPR research that they enjoy learning about arts, culture, and history. By lending MPR’s voice to Minnesota’s culture of active arts participation, this project is a direct way to inform more people about more Minnesota arts and culture and to promote listener participation in the arts.

Measurable Outcome(s)
  • On-air listenership: on avg. weekly listenership was 65,000
  • Calendar page views: 6,000
  • Calendar postings: 1 Minnesota event highlighted/day
  • Blog postings: 150
  • Page views: 226,800
  • Art hounds participants on-air: 125
