Parks & Trails Legacy Advisory Committee

The Parks and Trails Legacy Advisory Committee was created as a part of the implementation of the 25-year Parks and Trails Legacy Plan The committee was convened by the Metropolitan Council (Met Council), the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Coalition.

As the Legacy Plan states, coordination among providers is essential to create a seamless network of state and regional parks and trails that connects people to the outdoors and creates the next generation of natural resource stewards.

The Mission

“The mission of the Parks and Trails Legacy Advisory Committee is to champion the 25-year Parks and Trails Legacy Plan by providing recommendations to enhance promotion, coordination, and accountability throughout implementation of the plan.”

The Parks and Trails Legacy Plan recommends how the Parks and Trails Legacy Fund should be used.  The Parks and Trails Fund, one of the four funds created by the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment passed in 2008, receives 14.25% of the money raised by the sales tax increase.  The purpose of the amendment is to provide supplemental financial resources to traditional funding sources for support of state and regionally significant park and trail systems.
