10th Anniversary Events

2018 marked 10 years of the passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.  In an effort to recognize the 10th Anniversary of this constitutional amendment the Parks and Trails Legacy Advisory Committee organized several regional public events to celebrate, educate and listen to Minnesota’s citizens.  Each event was filled with family-friendly activities aiming to engage and inspire people from across the community to get involved with their parks and trails, and to learn about the opportunities the Legacy Amendment offers.

During these events, staff from the ten Metropolitan Regional Parks System’s implementing agencies, the Metropolitan Council, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission gathered ideas and perspectives from attendees on Legacy efforts thus far to help shape priorities moving forward.

We had a great first Legacy Event on January 27th at Silverwood Regional Park in St. Anthony, MN. With staff from the DNR, Metropolitan Council, and Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission, we were able to engage 200 visitors about the Legacy Amendment.

Through celebrating, educating, and listening, we successfully spread the word about the achievements of the Legacy Amendment and gathered valuable feedback about the public’s vision for the future. With informative displays, interactive feedback programs, and exciting activities, it was a fun and successful event for people of all ages. From ice fishing to kick sledding to s’mores making, there was something for everybody! We look forward to hosting the upcoming Legacy events, which will all have unique activities and displays.

2018 marked 10 years of the passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. This legislative amendment has made it a priority to invest in Minnesota’s state and regional parks systems; approximately 186 parks and 439 trails across Minnesota have benefited from Legacy funding since 2008. In an effort to recognize the 10th Anniversary of this constitutional amendment the Parks and Trails Legacy Advisory Committee organized several regional public events to celebrate, educate and listen to Minnesota’s citizens.
