ACHF Arts Access
1: "Regional residents experience increased access to the arts via a reduction in geographic, cultural and/or physical barriers." The MN Pottery Festival pulls our audience from across the region, and for some of the people in attendance this is the only major art festival they attend annually. Because we do not have an entry fee, offer free parking, and host the event outside, many larger families attend. Our 2019 audience engagement survey showed that 48% come from the Hutchinson and surrounding area (including Litchfield and Dassel), 35% came from the Twin Cities Metro Area (an increase from 24% in 2018), 15% came from other areas of Minnesota and the remaining 2% came from out of state. 2: "Regional residents experience a change in knowledge, attitude, behavior or condition due to public art, arts festivals or arts events." The mission of the MN Pottery Festival includes the mandate to, "educate and engage with an increasingly knowledgeable public by raising the public's appreciation and understanding of pottery and help broaden the depth and breadth of ceramic arts in Minnesota." And it is our goal every year to add more educational opportunities for the audience. According to our evaluation tool, the number one reason (37%) that people came to the 2019 festival was because they the quality of the art and the opportunity to learn more about the processes, methods, and interact directly with the potters. 8: "Regional residents learn new arts skills and techniques." Last year we added hour-long in-depth demonstrations with step-by-step details from the artists. We plan to increase these demonstrations in 2020. For measuring visitor experience including awareness of pottery types and techniques, we are going to create evaluation stations to capture more feedback. We added new questions this year about what the audience learned. We created a quick worksheet to capture the responses and then every few hours the volunteer adds all the answers into the electronic survey for easy tabulation and analysis. Since 2016, we have been capturing demographic data to gather benchmarks to benchmark future audience demographics growth.
