Art & Culture Live!: Community Collaborations - Van Horn/Zumbrota Library Mural & Presentation Program
Van Horn/Zumbrota Library Mural & Presentation Program implemented two mural projects, one at the Van Horn Public Library of Pine Island and the other at the Zumbrota Public Library (Zumbrota, MN). The projects included the creation of a mural with a literary theme at each library and a series of presentations to educate children and the community members on a variety of artistic concepts.

Program Outputs: Outputs are things you can count such as attendance, number of new participants, and the number of attendees who had never been at a similar event, and so on.
Between the two programs, there were approximately 420 people in attendance. Of that, 402 were students who attended the presentations at Van Horn. The libraries administered a survey to audiences and collected data from 187 respondents; the majority of responses came from the Van Horn Public Library’s school class presentations. 36.9% of the attendees who took the survey had rarely or never visited their local public library before the event.

From the survey results;68.45% strongly believed the presentation met expectations and75.94% though it enjoyable for all ages. 60.43% thought it enabled them to see an art project they would not have otherwise. On a scale from 1-10 with 10 as the highest,81 people gave a 10 indicating they were very likely to think of the library as a place to experience cultural or arts programs and the same number agreed they were more likely to think of the library as an essential service to the community.
