Project Overview

113 teens spent 5 contact hours in workshops at 14 public libraries with a regional professional photographer learning photography skills and increasing their self-confidence in taking pictures in preparation for submitting photographs to be judged in a local photography contest.  The top photographs were submitted for the regional library contest that was judged by nationally recognized Craig Blacklock.  Because the teen summer reading program was Make Waves at your Library, water was selected as the subject for the photography contest.

Also, students from the Perpich Center for the Arts provided a music program or an art display/program at their local public library.  The students held a classical piano concert at the Duluth Public Libray.  One student at Grand Marais performed songs, both original and by other artists, on his acoustic guitar.  At International Falls, a student had a display of digital frame art and the library held an open house.  In Grand Rapids, the local student displayed a photography exhibit.

The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council provided contact information and recommendation for the presenter and the judge.

The Perpich Center for the Arts' Librarian provided the contact between the school and the students' parents or guardians and the Arrowhead Library System.

113 teens attended the 14 workshops
34 teens borrowed cameras so they could participate in the workshop
5 teens borrowed cameras to use to take pictures to submit for the contest
93 teens submitted photographs for the contest
5 Perpich Arts students held a performance or an art show at 4 libraries.
54 community members attended the programs by the Perpich Arts students.
