Author presentations on Hard Work and a Good Deal, a book about the Civilian Conservation Corps in Minnesota. 3 days of presentations were held at 9 LARL locations from September 17, 2012 to September 19, 2012. Presentations were held at the Barnesville Library, Breckenridge Library, Crookston Library, Detroit Lakes Library, Fosston Library, Mahnomen Library, McIntosh Library, Moorhead Library, and Hendrum LINK Site.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

1. Participants will learn more about the Great Depression years in Minnesota and their impact on the state's population and government. 2. Participants will learn about the early-mid 20th century conservation movement in the United States and Minnesota. 3. Participants will learn about Great Depression New Deal programs with a focus on the Civilian Conservation Corps in MN. 4. Participants will learn about the work of the CCC in their own areas (history under their feet). 5. Participants will learn about places to visit in Minnesota that interpret or honor the state's CCC history and CCC enrollees today.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Sample survey responses asking what did you like best about the program: Learned a lot about a little known area of Minnesota history; Learned part of my dad's history - worked in the MN CCC camp; Excellent presentation with lecture, films & literature; So interesting to hear about how the individual camps worked & their focus on conservation.
