Project Overview

Funding is requested for two parcel acquisitions by the Pelican River Watershed District and subsequent conveyance to the MN DNR as part of the Frank Wildlife Management Area. The 49.7 acre acquisition is part of a larger multipurpose project, the restoration of the Rice Lake Wetland. Through restoring and stabilizing the water level of Rice Lake by 1.5 ft, the restoration project will provide over 400 acres of additional enhanced wetland area for the management of migrating shorebirds and waterfowl, as well as provide significant water quality improvements for downstream recreational lakes (Big/Little Detroit, Sallie, Melissa).
