The county seeks to protect habitat along Valley Creek by acquiring a permanent conservation easement over 50 acres of upland and riverine habitat that will permanently protect nearly 3,000 feet of frontage on the South Branch and 1,150 feet along the West Fork; 1½ acre wetland; and 48 acres of oak savannah. The requested funds would provide about 33% of the total project cost. This part of the Valley Creek Protection Partnerships work to permanently protect a continuous corridor along the Creek and conduct restoration where needed. Partners are actively negotiating to protect another 150 acres, restore 48 acres of upland habitat and enhance one mile of in-stream habitat.
