Project Overview
November 19, 2013 marked the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, one of the greatest moments in American history. In this program, with the help of documents, stories and photographs from the 1860s, presenter Dale Blanshan in period costume explored the Battle of Gettysburg, and presented two programs on the actual anniversary, November 19 to students at Rippleside Elementary school followed by an evening performance at the Aitkin Public Library. He also performed at the Cambridge Public Library, the Milaca Community Library, the Chisago Lakes Area Library and the Pine City Public Library.

Attendees will learn about the historic day of November 19, 1863 and the significance of the Gettysburg address; they will learn about the Battle of Gettysburg from the circumstances that led to it, to its conclusion at Pickett's charge; and examine the significance of the speech that day in 1863 to 2013.

Only 45% of those in attendance were very likely to recommend the program to others and 64% felt the program was excellent. Comments included the following: He did a beautiful job of making it interesting for adults and children alike; Covered a lot of battles good for military folds, but I feel asleep; It helped to better understand the facts of that time that I had heard about in school.
