Project Overview
The Native Pride Dancers and Mr. Yazzie presented 8 educational workshops at the East Central High School along with two school assemblies over a period of two days. These workshops were followed with an evening performance at the East Central School Performing Arts Center with a troupe of 4 dancers which included storytelling, flute, dancing and interaction with the audience. These events took place on February 27 and 28, 2014.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Attendees will learn about Native American cultural traditions through music, dance and storytelling thus nurturing communication among all people. The program will enhance their access to diverse and multicultural artists.

Measurable Outcome(s)

96% of the kids who attended the workshops loved it. When asked to name one thing they learned about indigenous traditions they made the following comments: They are very creative and have cool dances; There are 565 federally recognized tribes; They believe the drumbeat resembles there heartbeat. Only 42% of those attending the evening performance were aware of Minnesota's Art and Cultural Heritage Fund. Comments from the audience included: Great dances would have liked to see the rain dance and the woman Gancy dance Loved to see the younger generation getting into our heritage; very informative and interactive; This was the first time I watched Native American dance. Nicely done
