Project Overview
Sculptor, Ian Dudley, will create a sculpture of Nellie Gustafson, a midwife who came to Minnesota in 1903 and settled in the east central community of Lindstrom. The sculpture will be installed at the Chisago Lakes Area Library in 2013 and serve as a reminder of our Swedish ancestors and their heritage. A program discussing the making of the sculpture was held at the library in June. After conferring with the State Library, we determined that this should be a two-year project. Part I – Fiscal Year 2012 will include completion of 80% of the buggy piece of the Work and 40% of the Nelly piece of the Work and Part II – Fiscal Year 2013 will include the completion of the Statue. The unveiling of the sculpture along with signage and more programming is slated for June 2013.
