Project Overview

KKWE’s Dibaajimowin or “storytelling” focuses on cultural knowledge, teachings and history of the north country. This includes historic knowledge of place names in Anishinaabe Akiing (the land of the original people). KKWE targets villages and communities within the boundaries of the White Earth Indian Reservation to recruit reporters and historians in the listening area. The goal of this project to deliver local and Northern Minnesota history and stories to the listening area making it entertaining and informative.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

KKWE will track calls and email to the station, solicit feedback through listener surveys, and attempt to track the number of classrooms utilizing these programs in their history classes

KKWE have continued to do research and have contracted to complete 40 of these for the 52 segments
4 have been aired and 12 are in production
The "Dibaajimowin" project brought a more detailed history of these local communities to listeners by collaborating with the area Historical Societies and schools
