KMOJ - Minnesota’s African American History
The history of African Americans in Minnesota is rich, varied and sometimes difficult. KMOJ is partnering with the Minnesota African American Museum and Cultural Center to celebrate the contributions made by African Americans in Minnesota and the Midwest. KMOJ is developing a series of sixty second vignettes that educates and ensures that future generations will have the knowledge, skills and information they need to compete and succeed for many years to come. KMOJ and MAAM's collaborate to highlight the contributions of African American Minnesotan’s such as Dred Scott, Nellie Stone Johnson, Fredrick McKinley Jones and Roy Wilkins to name a few.
The goal of this project is to highlight information about the contributions of African Americans to the state of Minnesota. KMOJ desires to educate and incorporate a sense of accomplishment to all of the African Americans of the state of Minnesota. An estimated number of listeners for the segments, response from the website campaign and number of Facebook impressions and commints for those posted on Facebook. KMOJ will also post vignettes on the AMPERS/PRX website and calculate impressions.
The series highlighted such organizations as The City Inc., Hallie Q. Minnesota, The Minneapolis and St. Paul Urban League, and NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center. The series also featured the election of the Nation's first Muslim; Congressman Keith Ellison.
