KUMD - Northland Now
“Northland Now” is a program that offers a seven week long mini-series, 5-10 minutes in length, which will include interviews with principal individuals who will share their insight into important cultural, artistic and historical issues that affect Northeast Minnesota. Each series topic will feature five individuals who will discuss a different aspect on that topic.The series topics will include the following: 1. Park Point Art Fair – Visual art 2. Glensheen Festival of Fine Art and Crafts – Visual art 3. Homegrown Music Festival – Music performance 4. International Shipping in Duluth – Historical and cultural 5. Community Theater in the Northland – Artistic and historical 6. Diversity issues – Cultural and historical 7. Mining in Northern Minnesota-Cultural and historical
People will trust Minnesota’s stewardship of public arts, culture and history funding. KUMD will rely on our community partners to provide the majority of necessary research, thus reducing much of our staff costs.Arts, culture and history will thrive in Minnesota. The “Northland Now” series will bring relevant new and historical information about various topics, and particular aspects of these topics to the forefront. Each series topic will help promote the arts and cultural issues/events in the Northland.Increased potential for visual and literary artists in Minnesota to earn income from their art. Three of the “Northland Now” series are centered on artistic events. The exposure of these artists (and many others at the events) will benefit from the interviews and event promotion. Those artists who are featured will certainly benefit from the exposure, and hopefully earn income for their art sales while participating in those art events.More locally and Minnesota focused content. All series topics will be Minnesota focused.More knowledge and awareness of the way that history affects people’s lives and how that knowledge can help people make informed decisions for the future four of the “Northland Now” series (Duluth International Shipping, Community Theater, Diversity in Duluth and Mining in Northern Minnesota) will focus on cultural and historical issues of the Northland. These topics are geared to inform our listeners about their historical relevance, and how that information, coupled with new information, can help assist people in make informed decisions for the future.
