Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Arts, culture and history will be interweaved into every facet of community life: Through Radio K’s legacy-funded Culture Queue, the deep and varied cultural and artistic veins that define our state are both explored and contextualized – giving Minnesotans a shared vision of Minnesota and its unique and evolving artistic legacy. Culture Queue’s spotlighting of new, burgeoning and hidden arts and cultural experiences weaves all of Minnesota together and unites our communities. Programming is archived online for on-demand listening, allowing the listener the flexibility to determine the time and place that they listen.More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, abilities and incomes will participate in the arts, culture and history: Drawing from a student body that reflects a myriad of ages, ethnicities, abilities and incomes – Culture Queue covers arts and culture from continuously new perspectives and fully engages with nontraditional and underrepresented Minnesotans of all backgrounds to see arts and cultural events as both viable and integral to their everyday life. Culture Queue will reach people of all ages across the state of Minnesota in culturally and age-relevant mediums by using both modern digital technology like podcasting and internet streaming alongside traditional terrestrial radio.People will trust Minnesota’s stewardship of public arts, culture and history funding: As a responsible steward of ACHF funds, our projects reflect fundamental values that include honesty, integrity, and accountability. The project plan’s desired outcomes, measurable outcomes, and budget will help to ensure responsible management of the funds. Financial controls are in place within our organization to ensure that expenses are appropriate and within the grant parameters. Timely reports and invoices will be submitted regularly to the State of Minnesota to promote transparency, providing external oversight and ensuring that the arts, culture, and history grant outcomes are met. In addition, trustworthy stewardship of the funds will be demonstrated by the strategic relationships and partnerships with countless Minnesota writers, historians, and artists.Arts, culture and history will thrive in Minnesota: While Minnesota is known for its rich arts and cultural resources, many of the artists, cultural traditions and the rich history of our state remain unpublicized and under-explored. Culture Queue gives voice to those not served by the traditional media - whether it be because of age, income, or education - empowering all to become active in both the creation and consumption of arts and culture. This expansion of the breadth of who is considered an artist and what is considered culture creates knowledgeable discussion and a thriving cultural-connectivity across our entire state. More student exposure to professional performing arts, and the work of professional artists: With students behind the microphone and industry professionals and leaders behind them, Radio K gives voice to the traditionally-underserved youth community; exposing younger audiences to professional Minnesotan artists and their work and creating a life-long understanding of the value of arts and cultural pursuits as part of everyday life while empowering youth to become active in both the creation and consumption of arts and culture. In addition, through partnerships with digital leaders such as iTunes U, Culture Queue provides students across the country with exposure to Minnesota’s art, history and culture.More K-12 students can affordably learn to read music and play a music instrument, participate in dance, choral, drama and other performing arts: Many junior and senior high school students at Radio K come to us through Post Secondary Enrollment Options, a program at the University of Minnesota allowing high school juniors and seniors can affordably take classes for both high school and college credit. With ACHF funding, junior and senior high school students participating in Culture Queue are empowered to become active in artistic and cultural pursuits as part of their daily life and have the opportunity to increase their exposure to a variety of performing arts that they might otherwise never encounter.Increased potential for visual and literary artists in Minnesota to earn income from their art: Culture Queue increases the exposure of Minnesota artists from all disciplines, often being the first major media outlet to showcase an artist’s work or ideas, thereby giving them a chance not only to be seen, but showing artists that Minnesota is a viable place from which to sustain a career as an artist. Culture Queue will be broadcast over the air and archived online and easily accessible to all Minnesotans, thus increasing local and Minnesota focused content and increasing the potential for increased exposure and income for the featured artists or event.More locally and Minnesota focused content: Culture Queue focuses its lens on Minnesota, utilizing the wide breadth of knowledge and artistic and cultural vitality to create content – thereby celebrating what it means to be in Minnesota rather than looking to the coasts for inspiration. By casting a net beyond Minnesota’s main stages and cultural hallmarks, Culture Queue serves as a bellwether of emerging and under-served artists, cultural events and of the very face of Minnesota.More local artists, historians, writers and others that have their work showcased through public broadcasting: Every week, artists, historians, writers, and others on Culture Queue, are heard over our public airwaves. To increase accessibility, programs are also available 24/7/365 via streaming online, as a downloadable podcast on iTunes, and nationally on the Public Radio Exchange. Programs will also have the ability to be shared via social media and can be ‘liked’ online and shared via social media, increasing exposure of the featured Minnesota arts, culture, and history content worldwide.More knowledge and awareness of the way that history affects people’s lives and how that knowledge can help people make informed decisions for the future: By providing culturally-relevant artistic and cultural coverage, Culture Queue showcases the impact of Minnesota’s artistic and cultural legacy on everyday life, consistently empowering Minnesotans to reflect and see art and culture in all they do – whether it’s turkey races in western MN or riding the #16 bus in the metro.
