KKWE - Wiijigindiwag
This project features Native American elders and Native American youth creating dialogue about growing up Native, past and present. It increases knowledge of Native American culture and history. This program illustrates both the struggles and positive elements the Native American youth faced in the past and what they face today. It is a 20-30 minute biweekly production with 18 shows produced the first year.
The project goal is to build insight, positive rapport and an emotional understanding of the Native American youth with communities across the region where history has developed barriers to acceptance.
Both current and past culture of the Native American youth is explored and communicated in a clear and concise manner. The program is recorded in audio format and available for distribution through Minnesota. Through the public broadcast more Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicity, abilities and incomes learn about the culture and history of the Native American youth. This project creates an awareness and understanding of the hardships Native American youth face both in the past and in the present.
KKWE will document success through emails, calls to the station, web statistics, listener surveys and participation numbers. Success will also be based on the number of elders and youth who become involved.
Since the turn of the year, KKWE has successfully completed 6 interviews with all in production and 2 have aired on Niijii broadcasting.
