KUMD - Community Conversations
“Community Conversations” is a one half hour panel discussion, featuring four members of the community who will discuss cultural issues affecting various segments of Duluth and the Northland. Selected panelists will represent different groups are affected by
those topics. The program will be recorded, edited and aired once a month.
Arts, culture and history will be interwoven into every facet of community life. The primary purpose of “Community Conversations” is to offer a wide variety of citizens within our community, the opportunity to share ideas, concerns, and issues of cultural differences that affect us all. Because different segments of our community will be participating in the panel, it is hoped that our audience will gain a new perspective from both current and historical information provided.More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, abilities and incomes will participate in the arts, culture and history. The diversity of the panelists will assist in offering different perspectives concerning issues that need to be addressed. Selection of panelists will be based on their knowledge on the topic, and a desire to improve our community.People will trust Minnesota’s stewardship of public arts, culture and history funding. KUMD has begun setting the framework for this project by securing partners from area organizations who will offer their expertise in selection panelists, topics and general information to help make this project successful for the community.Arts, culture and history will thrive in Minnesota. “Community Conversations” is an excellent way to assure that Duluth and surrounding communities will grow in a culturally productive manner. Opening the hearts and minds of our listeners to the ideas, thoughts and suggestions of others can and should be a positive force for better life in Minnesota.More locally and Minnesota focused content. All panel discussion material will be based on Minnesota or local content.More knowledge and awareness of the way that history affects people’s lives and how that knowledge can help people make informed decisions for the future. This project will educate and enlighten our audience about major cultural issues certain members of the Northland community faces on a daily basis. The panel will address the historical significance of that issue, and how it affects our community today. It is hoped the sharing of these ideas will open the door for a positive change.
