KUMD - Women's Words
“Women’s Words” will be a 2 – 5 minute program, featuring the written work of area women. Selected work will include prose, poetry, lyrics, short story, literature, etc. The featured work will be selected by the Production Manager, to assure appropriateness for the audience, its ‘Minnesota roots connection’, as well as time constraints. All selected work will be pre-produced and aired twice a week. The selected writer will have their photo and bio featured on the KUMD website. Promotional announcements will be aired indicating which writer will be presented that week. KUMD will also promote submission of women (girls) writers’ work from area K-12 schools, as well as local colleges and universities. Depending on the number of submissions, KUMD would like to air a minimum of 12 works by area students.
Arts, culture and history will be interwoven into every facet of community life. “Women’s Words” will feature works by the women of Minnesota, for whose creative influences will often come from their own everyday life. By taking the resources and KUMD air time to promote the work of these Minnesota women, we are endorsing the importance of their art, culture and history into all of our lives.More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, abilities and incomes will participate in the arts, culture and history. This particular project will open the doors for all Minnesota women of any age, ethnicity, ability and income, to participate in having their work aired on KUMD, and made available on future listening on the KUMD website and the AMPERS website. Women from 8 to 80 can participate in presenting their work to a mass audience.Arts, culture and history will thrive in Minnesota. The airing of women’s prose, poetry and other literary work will prove the importance of their endeavors, both to the artist and to the listening audience. It is hoped that with the inclusion of younger writers into the project, it will ensure that they will have an outlet for expression, and encourage desire to continue their creative processes.More K-12 students can affordably learn to read music and play a music instrument, participate in dance, choral, drama and other performing arts. The “Women’s Words” project is a great example of how the ACHF can help promote the work of younger writers. It is hoped that those young writers whose works are chosen for airing will have a sense of pride and validation, thus ensuring continued artistic efforts in the future.Increased potential for visual and literary artists in Minnesota to earn income from their art. “Women’s Words” is an important showcase for area writers to showcase their work to the general public. The KUMD website will be a great vehicle to promote the writer, and for professional writers, it will offer a link to their website and other social media for additional contact information.More local artists, historians, writers and others will have their work showcased through public broadcasting. “Women’s Words” will air the work of 52 area writers, many from the K-12 school system. This may very well be their first exposure to ‘displaying’ their work before a mass audience.
