Project Overview

Radio K’s Vinyl Closet will digitize seminal artists that have performed in Studio K and left an indelible mark on the Minneapolis music scene. This project will ensure that this artistic resource is not permanently lost due to the disintegrating tape that it is stored on. ACHF funding will provide the opportunity to properly review and digitize this relevant audio for future generations.

Arts, culture and history will be interwoven into every facet of community life: By creating a lasting, digital archive, Minnesota’s musical history will be brought to life; students and listeners will have access to our rich musical past will have access for the first time.People will trust Minnesota’s stewardship of public arts, culture and history funding: As a responsible steward of ACHF funds, our projects reflect fundamental values that include honesty, integrity, and accountability. The project plan’s desired outcomes, measurable outcomes, and budget will help to ensure responsible management of the funds. Financial controls are in place within our organization to ensure that expenses are appropriate and within the grant parameters. Timely reports and invoices will be submitted regularly to the State of Minnesota to promote transparency, providing external oversight and ensuring that the arts, culture, and history grant outcomes are met.More student exposure to professional performing arts, and the work of professional artists: By making these audio files available through the creation of a digital library, students will have immediate access to decades of Minnesota musicians, thereby exposing them to our rich, musical history.More locally and Minnesota focused content: By preserving significant audio recordings, Radio K's Vinyl Closet project will bring to the community-at-large historic audio recordings; engaging listeners in the rich mosaic of Minnesota’s musical history.More knowledge and awareness of the way that history affects people’s lives and how that knowledge can help people make informed decisions for the future: Through a highly-accessible, on-demand archive of seminal Minnesota musical performances, listeners will become aware of the wide arc of musicians who have performed in, worked in, or called Minnesota home; providing a valuable contextual tool to appreciate and experience today’s artists
