KUMD - Radio Gallery
“Radio Gallery” is a weekly 5-minute radio program featuring the work of Minnesota Artists, focusing primarily on the visual arts, but does allow for other artistic ventures, including the performing arts. The program will include interviews, historically significant and new Minnesota artists, as well as gallery openings, publications and artist resources. Each featured artist will have samples of their work featured on the KUMD web site. A total of 52 programs will be produced, aired and archived.
Arts, culture and history will be interwoven into every facet of community life. “Radio Gallery” offers visual and performing artists an avenue to show their work as well as explain ideas in their work, how their creative processes assist them in producing the work they do. The use of KUMD airwaves to explain this process will encourage listeners to appreciate Minnesota art in new ways.More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, abilities and incomes will participate in the arts, culture and history. The “Radio Gallery” program reaches out to a wide array of artists, regardless of their age, ethnicity, ability or income. The program encourages art event attendance, artist submissions and increased consciousness of art in the community.Arts, culture and history will thrive in Minnesota. “Radio Gallery” is designed specifically to assure that art and cultural will thrive in Northeast Minnesota. By introducing these artists and their work to general populace, it is hoped they will be inspired to incorporate more art in their lives and appreciate the special communities we have here in Minnesota.Increased potential for visual and literary artists in Minnesota to earn income from their art. KUMD’s “Radio Gallery” will enhance the ability for area artists to promote their work to our audience both on-air and on our website. Links to the artists own website or email or other social media will be available to listeners too, thus giving them the opportunity to market and “sell” their work.More locally and Minnesota focused content. All artists featured on “Radio Gallery” are either local or Minnesota based.More local artists, historians, writers and other will have their work showcased through public broadcasting. The “Radio Gallery” program’s unique combination of the radio interview and the visual samples of their work on our website will open doors for these artists. The program also promotes the area galleries in which they are exhibiting their work. It is also hoped the program will generate interest in the artist’s work by art collectors and investors.
