For First Pages: attendees will learn new writing skills, attendees will be encouraged to continue their writing, will check out related materials from the library. For Westminster Town Hall Forum, attendees will experience a talk from an internationally acclaimed author. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the author by asking questions or getting a book signed. For MN Book Awards Memoir and Creative Nonfiction Nominees Reading, attendees will experience readings from quality local authors. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the authors by asking questions or getting a book signed.

Measurable Outcome(s)

For First Pages: 96% of adults, 100% of teens received encouragement to continue their writing. 100% of kids were more excited about writing. 96% of adults, 73% of teens and 100% of kids learned a new tool to improve their writing skills or process.68% of adults, 40% of teens and 100% of kids have or plan to check out library materials about writing. 100% of adults and teens and 100% of kids rated the quality of the program good or better.
Selected comments: “These programs are fantastic for folks with limited finances. I would attend many more writing programs at HCL if they are offered.” “I liked the class. I felt like I could say anything and not be judged. Rhea was very nice and got me to open up. She taught me a lot about writing. I now have a good idea on how to start a college essay and what sounds good and what doesn't. I have nothing on what needs to improve I really liked it. ” For Westminster Town Hall Forum: Patrons experienced a talk from an internationally acclaimed author. The speech was re-broadcast on MPR and can be accessed at any time with this link. 2000 bookmarks with related library materials were distributed to those who attended. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with the author by submitting questions during the presentation and participating in a book signing. For Minnesota Book Awards Memoir and Creative Nonfiction Nominees Reading: Attendees experienced readings from five quality local authors. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with the authors by asking questions or getting a book signed.
