Booked: Live Bands at Your Library
Provide a venue for communities to enjoy live music without having to make a long drive; bring younger adults into libraries in larger numbers than more typical library programs.
A total of 5 musical performances were scheduled for March and April at 5 different library locations. A total of 233 people attended the programs, and 100% gave them a rating of 4 or 5 (5 being “excellent). Roughly one third (31%) said that this was the first program they had ever attended at the library.
Attendees experienced a variety of musical styles and artists – a family of folk/bluegrass singers (and a clogger), a Celtic duo, reggae/Caribbean guitarists, a solo pop vocalist, a DJ playing Minnesota artists’ music for dancing – and did not have to travel outside of the county to hear them. Most attendees were adults, but many were entire families with the young ones enjoying the music as much as the adults!
What attendees liked best: “Fun music and clogging”, “(the)humor of the two musicians and their obvious mastery of their music”, “(the) combination of history and music”, “the intimate setting”, “Celtic music on St. Patrick’s Day”, and “informal, free music that I might not otherwise listen to”.
Overall, attendees thoroughly enjoyed the music and only asked that we do more of this in the future.
