Thrift Store Transformation (4/1): Bring a thrift store find you’d like to restyle — a skirt, T-shirt or any piece of clothing — and cut, stitch, embellish and transform it into something new and fashionable. Presented by the Textile Center. Registration required. Ages: 13–18. Button Box (4/2): Dig in to your button stash and learn a handful of ways to make jewelry and wearable art using vintage buttons. Learn techniques for stacking and attaching buttons to show off your favorites. Presented by the Textile Center. Registration required. Ages: 9–12. Vintage Vibe Embroidery (5/9): Learn to embroider and make a monogrammed handkerchief like your great-grandma might have or add embellishments to your jeans and more. Create a sample in class using several stitches and get tips to get you started on your own project. Presented by the Textile Center. Registration required. Ages: 9–12.

School-age kids and teens will learn about textile arts from professional instructors.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Teens selected thrift store clothing and learned to recycle and alter it in various ways. Instructor patiently taught sewing techniques and gave advice for alterations. All girls made jewelry--bracelets, rings, necklaces and learned basic embroidery stitches, and each participant made a monogrammed handkerchief.
