WBL's Notorious Gangsters - The Sequel & Meet Arthur Fillebrown
Increased recognition of the rich historical traditions of Minnesota. Heightened visibility for the library as a cultural center.
The Sequel - The White Bear area was a haven for the 1920s and ‘30s era gangsters who wanted to get away from it all. Patrons joined local historian to learn some gangster lingo while they heard the tales of infamous visitors such as Ma Barker, Alvin “Creepy” Karpis and Baby Face Nelson. Also, recent research has uncovered the story of Arthur Fillebrown, the quieter of the two siblings who donated their lake side cottage to the White Bear Lake Area Historical Society in the 1970s. Patrons were engaged while listening to his story illustrated through family photos and clippings. (2/17 - 38 people)(2/22 - 35 people)
