Renowned author Marian Hassan will work with Somali youth to write their unwritten stories. Over six workshops, participants will explore questions of what home means to them and document their personal stories, to be published as a book.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants will learn creative writing strategies and use them to write their own stories. Participants will learn about library programs and services. Participants will learn about each other’s unique and common life experiences.
Participants will learn about Somali traditions, culture and/or history. An anthology of participants' writing will be published in book form.

Measurable Outcome(s)

In the workshops, 91% learned creative writing strategies and used them to write their own stories, 91% learned about library programs and services, 91% found it helpful working with other students and listening their life experiences, and 100% would like to participate a similar program again.
