Project Overview
Author Peter Geye of the Twin Cities discussed his writing, particularly his newest novel, “The Lighthouse Road,” during the library’s monthly Adult Book Discussion Group. The event was promoted several months in advance so community members had the opportunity to obtain a library copy to read. Two community book groups, in addition to the library’s group, attended the event, as well as several people not affiliated with a book group. There was an audience of 25 who were engaged with Geye’s discussion and asked questions throughout the hour-long session. Following the formal event, Geye signed copies of his books, and he spoke one-on-one with several attendees.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Written surveys were distributed to all attendees at both presentations. It was expected that a majority of respondents would learn something about Peter Geye as a writer, learn something about Peter Geye’s writing process and learn something about the characters in "The Lighthouse Road. " In addition, library staff would observe a majority of attendees actively engaged in the program by listening attentively and asking questions. Anecdotal responses from attendees would confirm their enjoyment
of the program.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Twenty-four evaluations were completed (96% completion rate). 96% of respondents indicated they learned something about Peter Geye as an author. 96% of respondents indicated they learned something about Peter Geye’s writing process. 88% of respondents indicated they learned something about the characters in “The Lighthouse Road.” Librarian observed all of the attendees quietly listening to Peter Geye speak and nodding their heads occasionally. Several asked questions, and several stayed after the program to speak with Geye individually.
