Historian Julie Schrader presented a program on the life and times of Maud Hart Lovelace, the Mankato born author of the famous Betsy-Tacy series of children's books. Ms. Schrader used a PowerPoint presentation to show photos--past and present--of the locations used in the books. Costumed readers read excerpts from the series.

The participants will have a richer understanding, through the children's book series and of life in a Midwestern community of old. Outcomes will be measured through post-performance anecdotal responses and comments by those attending the program.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants were given the opportunity to learn and understand the history of Mankato and the background which are the settings for the Betsy-Tacy series of books. Attendees enjoyed learning more about the author, the characters from the books and the setting in which the books take place. The participants came away with a better understanding of turn of the twentieth century life and its rich history.
