Project Overview
Author Thomas Maltman discussed his latest book, "Little Wolves," for about one hour during the library's monthly Mystery Book Group session. Maltman introduced the book by reading a passage, and he shared a piece of his nonfiction writing that helped shape one of the main characters in the book. He then took questions from the audience and shared insight into his writing style, character development, reading habits, teaching style, and current work. Following the formal presentation, Maltman talked with audience members and signed copies of his books.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Written surveys were distributed to all attendees at the presentation. It was expected that a majority of respondents would indicate they learned something about Thomas Maltman as a writer, learned something about Thomas Maltman's writing process, learned something about the setting, plot, and characters in "Little Wolves" and would share a favorable review of the program with others. In addition, library staff would observe a majority of attendees actively engaged in the program by listening attentively and asking questions. Anecdotal responses from attendees would confirm their enjoyment of the program.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The vast majority of survey respondents provided positive feedback about the program. The author's presentation provided a wealth of information about "Little Wolves" and his writing process, and the survey responses indicated attendees learned more about the book and the author. Librarian observed the audience engaged in the program by quietly listening and then asking questions that ranged from specifics about "Little Wolves" to more general questions about reading and writing habits. The audience applauded at the conclusion of the program, and several people stayed after the formal presentation to have books signed and to speak with the author. Anecdotal responses to the program included: "Excellent on all levels." "These events are wonderful community builders. Our library seems alive with events." "These programs are great to have locally."
