Project Overview
Julie Klassen visited the Watonwan County/St. James Library in June. She spoke about her journey to becoming a writer, her books, and how book covers are designed and modeled. She also spoke about how she researched her books. She attended Jane Austen conventions and even learned how to dance Regency-era dances for her book, "The Dancing Master." At the end of her presentation, she took pictures with fans, signed and sold books. Julie Klassen worked as an editor at Bethany House Publishers before deciding to write full-time. "The Dancing Master" is her seventh book. Julie won a Christy award for best Christian historical romance for three of her books, "The Silent Governess," "The Girl in the Gatehouse," and "The Maid of Fairbourne Hall." She was also was a Minnesota Book Awards finalist and Romance Writers of America Rita Award Finalist for "The Silent Governess."

Many program attendees completed the available program evaluation. We hope that a majority of attendees will learn more about England in the 1800s, enjoy access to a talented author, and learn about the process of writing historical fiction.
